Portrait of Ellina

Portrait of Ellina is a small-format watercolor portrait built around the sitter’s tilted head, long brown hair, and raised hand. Layered ochre and brown washes establish the hair and facial tones, while dark gray and black passages give weight to the clothing. A touch of red at the lips and the pale shape of a hoop earring draw attention to the face.

The figure is set against exposed white paper, whose textured surface remains visible through the transparent washes. Soft transitions sit alongside sharper edges and concentrated marks, allowing the portrait to move between delicate facial detail and broader shapes. Its square format brings the face and gesture together in a compact composition.
